The Glong Seng drum is beaten in a competition. The drummer who can produce loudest sound is the winner. The word Seng means competition. Sometimes the drum is called Glong Ging or Jing according to the sound it produces. The Poo Tai people call it Glong Seng or Glong Tae. It is a large double-face drum with one small face and one large face. To play it a stick is used to beat the larger face. It is usually played in a competition at night during the Bun Bangfai festival (rocket festival).
The beating stick is usually made of strong wood such as wood from the tamarind tree or from the Keng tree. The wood is trimmed into a long stick about the size of the little finger and one Sok long (about 50 centimeters). The stick is wound around with cloth as a non-slippery hand hold. The end of the stick is covered with lead to gain more weight when beating.
