The Ching is a pair of cymbals type used for controlling the rhythm. It plays a very important role in all of the Thai musical ensembles. The cymbal is made of cast metal such as brass or bronze. It is cast thicker than the Chaap, with the concave central part and wide round mouth, about 6 centimeters in diameter. Each cymbal is pierced and inserted with a cord tying a pair of cymbals together for convenience in playing the instrument.
The name Ching comes from the sound it produces. It produces two sounds, Ching and Chup. Its function is to keep time, the pace and the rhythm of the music.
