The Kong Wong-lek (the small circle of gongs) is a melodic percussive instrument. It was created during the reign of King Phra Nangklao (King Rama III) by making a smaller size of the original Kong Wong to produce high beautiful joyful musical sounds with quick melody for playing in accompaniment with the Kong Wong-lek. It is played in the Paired-instrument Pii Pat ensemble and the Grand Pii Pat ensemble.
The Kong Wong-lek has 18 gongs (Luk Kong) starting with the lowest pitch (Luk Tuan), tuned to the western ‘Ti’ pitch, going up to the highest pitch (Luk Yod), similar to the western ‘Me’ pitch (which is one sound interval different from the Kong Wong-lek), on the furthest right.
